Use the CSW client in your Desktop GIS

Both ArcMap and QGIS have a Catalog Service for the Web (CSW) plugin. The CSW plugin can be used to query any catalogue and add data to the map from the catalogue search result. In this way it is very convenient for your staff members to find and add organisational data to a map within their desktop GIS environment.
